BLOOD SODIUM: DILUTION EXPLAINED
Blood sodium mostly corresponds to the concentration of sodium in the plasma.
Therefore:

- if you add a large amount of water without adding any sodium,
- the concentration may indeed decrease.
This phenomenon of dilution is avoidable.
The combination of sodium and glucose enables faster and more efficient absorption in certain situations of water stress. Sodium-glucose transport via SGLT1 then significantly enhances water and electrolyte absorption, particularly in situations of dehydration.

- Plasma volume may decrease
- Hemoconcentration increases
- Blood viscosity may increase

This is known as “Exercise-associated hyponatremia” (EAH).
